This 316-page monograph covers more than two decades of the Barcelona-based studio TdB Architects, directed by Juan Trias de Bes. A work defined by its fidelity to material, light, and context, and articulated around a design ethic rather than a recognizable aesthetic.
Divided into two main sections— Renovation and New Construction —with projects developed down to the plans and construction details, the publication features emblematic projects such as Casa Burés, Palau Moxó, and the Natura Bissé headquarters, among others. Each intervention demonstrates a desire for precision and continuity, where technique and poetics merge in an architecture expressed through constructive rigor, systematization, and dialogue with preexisting structures.
Josep Maria Montaner’s introduction, “The Materiality of Architecture. Restoring, Living, Working,” and Trias de Bes’s own text, “The Work Continues. A Reflection on the Orientation of Projects ,” outline the theoretical framework that articulates this journey. Both emphasize how each work is part of a continuum: an investigation into the topological potential of construction and the search for “total construction,” where form and matter reach their maximum expression.
Through each project included in this monograph, TdB Architects demonstrates how contemporary architecture is possible that respects and reinterprets its context, establishing permanent dialogues between history, place, and materiality.
