MOR(p)H

The MORpH project is a hotel facility for officers/students of the Croatian Military Academy “Dr. Franjo Tudjman”, in Zagreb, Croatia. Situated on the main downtown street, Ilica, this hotel skyscraper, officially named ‘’Vukovar’’, has become one of the recognizable landmarks in the Zagreb cityscape. Amidst the Zagreb historicist ‘Kasernen-Architektur’, this project employs the method of contrast. Since contextualisation through the surroundings is not possible, it found its formal legitimation in its own purpose, by covering itself with the military pixelated pattern. The confusion that a regular rhytm and shape of the opening would cause is skillfully avoided, so that the entire membrane looks coherent and communicates in a consistent way.
