“Kengo Kuma – Portugal Pavilion” is a book of impressive quality, truly beautiful, containing exclusive content on an emblematic, iconic work.
This book has been produced with the utmost effort, dedication, and rigorous attention to detail, providing as much information as possible so that everyone can assess the project with full understanding. It is published by House Details, an architecture publisher with a team made up solely of architects.
In a long interview, the editor asked a large number of very important and direct questions — from the design to the practical aspects — about the architectural project, and Master Kengo Kuma, generously and patiently, answered them all. The same approach was taken in the interviews with the Project Director and the studio Partner. House Details followed the same principle in selecting the technical drawings and other content.
Flipping through the book, one can clearly perceive its impressive quality. Among many other features, it contains almost 100% exclusive content, CAD project files (not PDFs), and photographs over a century old — with all rights duly paid. Even the print tests were carried out in offset, which is extraordinarily rare in the publishing world. However, these production costs were not reflected in the price of the book.
It contains three remarkable interviews. Architect Kengo Kuma, the author of the project, in both the text he wrote for the book and the interview he gave, expresses his respect for Portugal through unusually strong words. The interview cannot be considered easy, and once again, it emphasises and reveals the tribute he paid to that country, the respect he holds for it, and his clear intention to build bridges of friendship between Portugal and Japan.
The Partner of the studio connected to the project, is architect Rita Topa. She has extensive project experience, not only in Portugal and Japan but also elsewhere in the world. The same applies to the Project Director, architect Andrea Toccolini. Both generously contributed excellent interviews to the publisher.

As is customary in all House Details publications, and unique in the publishing market, this book was produced based on the complete CAD project (with subsequent content selection). For this reason, the publisher expresses its recognition and deep gratitude. The publication benefited from the usual effort, meticulous attention to detail, and great dedication of the architects at House Details, each with over 25 years of project experience.
The photographs of this Portugal Pavilion are absolutely brilliant, of striking beauty, taken by the Project Director…
The publisher expresses its deep gratitude for the opportunity to create this book, as well as for the exclusivity granted — nearly 100% of the content —
and for the kind and courteous treatment received, both in Portugal and in Japan.
