Architecture deals with the physical building as a whole; graft in architecture refers to any designs added to unused or neglected structures and spaces in an existing building. Korean architecture professor Jin-Ho Park here explores a number of student-driven projects that fill such empty spaces with structures that are part sculpture, part architecture, from elegantly tapered battens held in place by tension cables to a sinuous, spine-like form of timbers stretching between courtyard walls. Each project is extensively documented and described, illustrated with color photos, plans, and renderings.
